The Brief
Design a home extension for a growing family accommodating their needs now and into the future, the design needs to provide additional accommodation requiring an upper floor or ground floor extension, the ground floor renovations must achieve “bright open spaces” while retaining the warmth of the original bungalow family home.
The Result
The Rossmark design meets the brief and more. The ground floor renovation encompassed the removal of interior walls and a small extension; this now forms a combined family, dining and kitchen space in the rear quadrant of the home. The design captures light and relationships for both outdoor and indoor spaces; the use of skylights placed over the kitchen island provide an upward vista of the tree canopy from the adjoining park while still harvesting light to what was a dark space. The new outdoor terrace is covered by an opening roof system which contains integrated lighting and blinds. The renovation of the lower forward quadrant captures secondary living spaces and guest accommodation with services centralised dividing the ground floor quadrants. The upper floor extension provides a large walk-in robe, ensuite and master bedroom which overlooks adjoining park with the children’s bedrooms positioned in the upper forward quadrant of the home. The breakout space, services and stairwell are again centralised providing an overall sophisticated floor plan to both ground and first floor levels.
What the client said
We are thrilled with the outcome of our Rossmark renovation. Our family really comes together in our open plan downstairs and still has their own space upstairs. The light optimisation that has been achieved throughout has meant that historical dark spaces are now filled with light. The constant communication during design and construction really allowed us to sit back and enjoy the process with the knowledge that the team at Rossmark, led by Glen and Peter, had all the expertise and experience to deliver us an outcome that we are thrilled with.
