Project History
Miranda, Sutherland Shire $0-$350KThe Brief
2 large bedrooms and lounge room to create the “bachelor pad” offering independency and space while trying modernise the existing home exterior without removing the existing cladding.
The Result
“The boys” have there own space at the first floor extension level including the much need second living space. The stairwell was positioned to the north providing natural light to the centre of the home utilising the space of an old storeroom. Incorporating the removal of these walls and others delivered a function lounge and dining room at ground floor level with the staircase detail being a light filled back drop. The exterior of the upper floor was clad with a combination of textured cladding and cladding that match the lower level offering a complimentary façade. Performance glazing was specified to reduce the noise attenuation from the near main road and gaining great thermal improvements over conventional glazing. The existing front door lacked a covered entry, the design incorporated a cantilevered platform which gave shelter to the lower entrance door and completed the façade detail.
Another endorsement was the project won the 2010 NSW HIA Housing Awards for alterations and additions below $150,000
