Finding a builder that would help showcase the good bits of the house and ensure the addition fit in with the existing façade was one of the reasons we chose Rossmark.
Design and Planning: Peter and the team listened to our ideas and helped us design not only a functional space but a beautiful space. We added two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a lounge area to the upstairs and reconfigured half our downstairs to ensure a seamless indoor-outdoor living space, the kitchen of my dreams, and an internal laundry (yay to not needing to wear a parker anymore to do the laundry in winter!).
Construction Phase: Living through a build with a young family can be challenging, but the team on site (Jason, Jordon, Liam, Nick and Cliff) made the process as seamless as they possibly could. They kindly answered our young apprentices' questions each morning, respected our family pets still on site, and kept the site clean and tidy. The level of respect the builders and staff at Rossmark showed me as a female leading a project build was exceptional. Peter, Glen, Lisa, and Kathi were brilliant with both providing advice along the way of the build and suggesting great solutions as things popped up (and respecting our budget).
Final Outcome: Not only is the build everything we could have asked for (and within our budget), but it was all the extra little things along the way that made us recommend Rossmark to anyone considering a build. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and overall quality of the build were frequently praised by our relatives at Christmas who had completed new builds and renovations themselves.
Professionalism: Coming home from work each night to find the site clean and tidy and all materials organised was another way Rossmark demonstrated their level of professionalism as a building company. The quality of the final result and budgetary alignment with initial quotes exceeded our expectations.
Our renovation included several key components. Rossmark handled all the design work and organized DA approval, which was a seamless process. They reconfigured the upstairs bedrooms, adding new wardrobes, ducted air conditioning, and a balcony door and windows, as well as creating built-in folding bed cabinetry in the spare room. Downstairs, they delivered a full kitchen renovation with a redesigned layout that involved modifying internal walls. They also added a large covered deck to expand our outdoor living space, complete with new external doors and window opening onto the deck. On top of this, they installed new timber flooring and doors throughout, updated electrics and lighting, and repainted both the whole interior and all exterior timber.
What stood out was Rossmark’s overall management, delivery and ability to adapt to our needs with incredible flexibility. Just before the project began, we added more scope, and they took it all in stride, even completing all internal works within a tight five-week window while we were away overseas. The level of progress they achieved during that time was remarkable. Their quality of work and attention to detail were evident in every aspect of the renovation, from immaculate finishes to thoughtful suggestions on design ideas that helped improve our original plans.
Communication throughout the project was a highlight. Even while we were on the other side of the world, Rossmark kept us informed every step of the way. They worked collaboratively with us, pushing back when any of our ideas didn’t make sense (with clear, thoughtful justification) and bringing their extensive experience to bear with alternative solutions and suggestions, whilst never coming across as trying to up-sell.
Rossmark’s ability to handle unexpected challenges was equally impressive. From repairing a structural bearer to dealing with a door supplier on manufacturing issues, re-routing waste pipes and resolving stormwater drainage issues to rectifying a hiccup with the staining on the deck, they navigated each surprise with professionalism and commitment.
They maintained a spotless site throughout the process, catered to many small incremental requests and addressed all defects—no matter how minor—without hesitation as we reached the end of the job. Their respect for our home and family was apparent in every interaction.
Special thanks go to Peter, who guided us through the design, selections, and planning process with patience and experience. Glen managed the delivery of the entire project flawlessly, coordinating trades and maintaining regular communication. Tom, who led the day-to-day work on-site, demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship, particularly with all the carpentry. Lisa was invaluable in liaising with suppliers and chasing down a lost appliance. I first found out about Rossmark by talking to neighbours in the street that had done work by them. I was surprised by how enthusiastically they spoke of Rossmark and how much they loved their new house. Their renovation involved extended and tricky negotiations with the council because of the heritage protection order for our area and Matt negotiated very effectively on behalf of his clients. Above all, Matt and his staff were very nice people to deal with. I decided that this was the kind of business I wanted to do our renovation.
Matt worked patiently with us for 18 months, developing a floor plan that met the needs of our whole family - then we began building. Our renovation was demanding and difficult because there were many American heritage features that were time-consuming to plan and install such as tessellated floor tiles, extensive wood trim and panelling, pedestal bathroom sinks, the claw-footed bath, custom built cabinetry, a heritage ceramic kitchen sink and detailed cornices. The creative and stylish design that Matt developed paid off enormously as we feel like we are on holidays when we are at home and the design has encouraged our family to interact a lot more. After receiving DA approval, Peter, Glen and the team took over the project management and construction of our job.
