The Brief
Living in a home that no longer suited their growing family’s daily routine, the clients needed a clever renovation solution without compromising on future potential. Their holistic vision included laying the structural groundwork for a future ground-floor renovation, paving the way for open-plan living and an integrated kitchen with a concealed butler’s pantry. Their primary challenge was creating a dedicated private level for three bedrooms—including an expansive master suite and a multi-functional family bathroom—while maximising flow and day-to-day function. Storage was another major pain point, requiring a substantial linen and storage solution.
Key Requirements:
- Upward Expansion: Build a second storey addition to shift sleeping quarters off the ground floor.
- Private Master Suite: Design a dedicated parent’s sanctuary complete with a luxury ensuite (featuring a separate WC and vanity) and a full-sized walk-in robe.
- High-Flow Layout: Zone the secondary bedrooms around a three-way bathroom to eliminate morning rush-hour bottlenecks.

The Rossmark building design team delivered a custom second storey addition that resolves this Sydney family’s immediate spatial needs while engineering for future expansion.
- Smart Zoning & Daily Flow: A central feature staircase acts as the architectural anchor—separating the master suite on one side from the secondary bedrooms and custom three-way bathroom on the other.
- Integrated Storage: A dedicated walk-in linen and storage room was built directly off the upper landing, maximizing footprint efficiency.
- Future-Proof Engineering: The first-floor structure was engineered with concealed steel beams and strategically placed posts, ensuring ground-floor walls can be removed in Stage 2 without costly structural re-work.
