Home Renovation in Burraneer | Modern Cottage Transformation

House Renovations

Burraneer, Sutherland Shire   $350K - $550K
Family of four with 2 young children

The Brief

Our clients, a family of four with two young children, returned to Australia after several years working overseas and wanted to transform their Burraneer home into a functional, low-maintenance family home.

Their home renovation goals included:

  • Creating a stronger connection between the indoor and outdoor living spaces.
  • Improving the home’s layout for modern family living.
  • Retaining the charm of the original cottage while introducing a contemporary feel.
  • Designing a home that required minimal maintenance to suit their busy work and family lifestyle.

The Challenge

The existing floor plan felt closed off, limiting natural light and restricting the flow between living areas. The kitchen and dining spaces no longer suited the family’s needs, while the bathrooms were undersized and lacking functionality.

The home also needed a refreshed exterior that complemented the character of the neighbourhood while providing a timeless, modern cottage aesthetic.

The Result

A comprehensive structural renovation completely reimagined the home’s layout.

By removing internal walls and creating larger openings between rooms, we established an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area that forms the heart of the home. New, wider openings to the outdoor entertaining spaces strengthened the connection between the interior and garden, creating seamless indoor-outdoor living.

This home renovation also included:

  • A fully redesigned kitchen with an improved layout for family living and entertaining.
  • An enlarged master ensuite for greater comfort and functionality.
  • An extended main bathroom to better accommodate a growing family.
  • A new laundry positioned adjacent to the garage, doubling as a practical mudroom for everyday convenience.
  • Complete internal finishes that modernised the home while maintaining its welcoming cottage character.

Externally, the home received a contemporary cottage makeover with carefully selected materials and finishes that enhances its street appeal. The surrounding landscape was redesigned with low-maintenance planting, allowing the family to spend more time enjoying their home and less time maintaining it.

Our Solution

This complete home renovation in Burraneer transformed an outdated cottage into a bright, spacious and highly functional family home.

The new open-plan design improves natural light, circulation and everyday living, while the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces creates the perfect environment for entertaining and family life.

By combining thoughtful structural changes, contemporary finishes and low-maintenance landscaping, we delivered a functional house that reflects our clients’ lifestyle and a home that will continue to serve their family for many years to come.

What the client said

Rossmark was an absolute pleasure to work with. They achieved the rare balance of meticulous attention to detail and design, while also guiding us efficiently through decisions so the project stayed on schedule. Their trades were truly best-in-class — professional, courteous and aligned with Rossmark’s own high standards of care. Every person we dealt with, from Matt to the surveyor, the selections team and of course Peter, was exceptional. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble. One moment that really stood out was the team securing areas of our balcony at 6pm on Christmas Eve to ensure we could be home for Christmas — a gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment. Two years on, I still love walking into our new space every morning.
