Extensions
Caringbah, Sutherland Shire $350K - $550KThe Brief
To accommodate the grandchildren and large family occasions, the family was in need to renew their kitchen, reconfigure outdoor terrace and backyard landscaping to provide functional entertaining space as well as ensure safety for grandchildren to play in.
The challenge was to design an elevated ground floor extension built on a steep slope as well as a terrace that relates to the dwelling and meets the outdoor yard at two different levels. The existing terrace was also very close to the side boundary fence, the team was conscious of council constraints, however, determined to not compromise on clients brief. The existing backyard was hard to maintain because of the mishap extension upon extension, as a result of not masterplanning the home.
The Result
The terrace provides covered shade and ample space for entertaining and storage below deck by wrapping the deck around the dwelling, providing continuous flow from the house.
The renovation accommodated a new modern kitchen that opens into the living room. The space is light and airy without having to compromise on storage and functionality. New hardwood floors resulted in a seamless home extension. Care was taken to match the existing cottage architecture of its time and saving cost in doing so, rather than renewing all materials. Carefully positioned windows and door to the kitchen brought in more light than before, resulting in a heart warming space for entertainment, whether indoors or outdoors.
